Cross Country Redux

And in the next meet, after decimating all competition, the team rests as the final race wraps up, and M., a gravity-challenged young man who is consistently last, is coming up dead last again, alone, and the kids decide to get up and run with him, supporting him, urging him on, but hanging back at the last few yards so he can cross the finish line alone and unaided. The host team responds to our superiority and model sportsmanship by throwing rocks at the bus and we don't respond.

And then yesterday, two kids cheat, a bunch of kids quit when it gets hard, and now it all feels gross.
